Sometimes the hardest decisions are the ones made with the deepest love for the community. With heavy hearts, we share that the Barstow Senior Citizens Thrift Store will be closing its doors on March 10th, 2026.

For many years, the thrift store has been more than just a place to shop. It has been a gathering place, a treasure hunt, a conversation starter, and a quiet way for neighbors to help neighbors. Every rack of clothing, every shelf of books, and every donated item carried a story. And behind it all were the incredible staff and supporters who made the store possible.

The thrift store played an important role in supporting the Barstow Senior Center and the programs that serve our seniors every day. Every purchase helped provide meals, activities, and services that keep our community’s older adults connected, active, and cared for.

But as times change, so do the challenges of operating a small nonprofit store. Despite the dedication of our staff and the generosity of our community, it has become increasingly difficult to sustain the store in a way that allows us to continue serving our seniors as effectively as possible.

Closing the thrift store is not something we ever wanted to do, and it is certainly not a decision that was made lightly. It represents the end of a chapter that so many people helped write over the years.

We want to take this moment to say thank you.

Thank you to the staff who sorted donations, organized shelves, greeted shoppers, and kept the doors open day after day.
Thank you to the community members who donated items and supported the store with their purchases.
And thank you to everyone who believed in the mission of supporting seniors in Barstow.

While the thrift store may be closing, the spirit of community that built it remains strong. The Barstow Senior Center will continue working to serve our seniors through programs, meals, activities, and opportunities for connection.

We hope you will continue to support the center in other ways — by volunteering, attending events, or simply spreading the word about the services available to seniors in our community.

The thrift store may be closing its doors, but the memories, friendships, and generosity it created will always be part of the Barstow Senior Center’s story.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of it.
