From the Desk of Anna Fuzie, President:

Welcome to our new Barstow Senior Center (BSC) members and welcome back to our existing members.  The senior center hopes to have a fun-filled year especially since this will be our 50th anniversary this year! We are working now on our 50th anniversary dinner!

I am excited to announce we have been contacted by the 66ers Baseball Team in providing trips to their games in San Bernardino.  The cost of a ticket is $35.00 and that includes all you can eat in a patio-setting environment. In addition, they are working with Victor Valley Transit Authority in providing reasonable transportation costs. More exciting news to come on that but in the meantime pencil in Thursday, April 9th, 2026 on your calendars! J

BSC also wants to give a shout out to Randy Campbell at C&M Fencing for being so generous in fixing the fence around Barstow Senior Center! Thank you and thank you. It looks wonderful and we very much appreciate their kind donation!

I am sad to announce that the Barstow Senior Thrift Store will be closing sometime in April.  I am well aware that the store provides a service to many people in the community who shop there but unfortunately the store does not generate a significant profit and the rising cost of insurance has made it cost prohibitive for the Barstow Senior Center to continue running the store.  We appreciate our staff who have worked hard there for many years.

I would like to encourage all members to join the membership meetings on the third Tuesday of every month starting at 12:45 PM. A lot of information is provided and we welcome your input and ideas. I hope to see you all there.

I’m sorry to announce that Mary Ulibarri resigned as treasurer. We wish her and her family the very best and hope to continue to see her here on a regular basis! With her resignation, I am happy to announce that the board has voted in Kae Dickson who was happy to step up as Vice President and Steve Slobodzian will hold the role of Treasurer.  Johnny Baca is also our assistant treasurer. Kae has been a volunteer here for over ten years and we are looking forward to working with her in her new role.

As most of you know we are going digital with our newsletter. The savings in paper and ink really helps the center costs. You will still be able to come in and get a copy if needed. The nice thing about going digital is that we can also keep you current as to what is going on at BSC with e-mail blasts. We will of course continue to post on Facebook.

The City of Barstow has been very gracious in donating computers to the BSC. If you have a need to use the computer please feel free to contact us so that we can set up a time for you to be able to come in and use it. If you need printing capabilities we will be able to assist you with that as well.

Join us for our Valentine’s Dance February 14, 2026. Doors open at 5:00PM.

We will be having a Mother’s Day Brunch May 10th from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.  Brunch is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under. More to come.

Have a happy February!
